Centacare is the official Catholic social service agency for the Catholic Diocese of Rockhampton, serving all people without regard to religion, race, age, economic circumstance or ethnic background. In central Queensland, Centacare began in 1974 as the Christian Family Centre, founded by Sister Anne Marie Kinnane and Father Frank Gilbert. We now have sites in Bundaberg, Rockhampton, Mackay Emerald, Blackwater, Gladstone and Yeppoon. Centacare’s mission is to provide professional community services to enhance the wellbeing of individuals and families. Our dominant purpose is to provide direct relief of suffering, stress, misfortune, disability or helplessness, sickness and the effects of poverty for the benefit of our community. Our primary contribution is strengthening services to the community, through the funding, coordination and delivery of support services to individuals and families. Services/ supports available from Centacare include: family relationship supports that promote healthy family relationships, such as parenting education, natural fertility services and life skills development; family supports to prevent conflict and separation, encourage agreement rather than litigation, and promote the right of children to have meaningful relationships with both parents; and community care services that include aged care disability and mental health supports, assisting people to live in the community.
